Four Year Anniversary

Enjoy this 4K wallpaper as a thank you for your support! (Click the image or here for the full resolution!)

When we founded our webcomic collective, we had a few goals in mind for our community. Such as celebrating the creation of webcomics and bolstering fellow creators in a space cultivated for creative growth. We also wanted to create a safe space filled with camaraderie, where community members want to contribute as much as we do. Safe to say that we’ve achieved that and then some! However, we are not alone in these efforts: we're blessed to have dozens of people invested in making our community what it has become. We have the best community we could have ever hoped for and we can’t thank y’all enough for helping to make that a reality!

This rings true more than ever the past year. It’s no secret that many of our staff have been struggling with their health, life events, living conditions, stressors, and so much more. Due to these difficulties, we’ve had to delay many things we wished to accomplish this year. Despite these hardships, we’ve never felt more loved and capable. Thank you for your unyielding support!

That’s enough sappy rambling though. We could go on forever! Y’all mean that much to us. On with the show!

The affiliate application form is open once again! Not sure what a Foxglove Comics Affiliate is? You can learn all about it at our community affiliates page, where you can also find the application form. Everyone in our Discord is welcome to apply, including those we turned down previously. The form will close on September 30th at 11:59pm PT. It is beefy with long form answers, so don’t wait till the last minute! We will be taking our time reviewing your applications to maintain a healthy balance with our comic work and other responsibilities. We can’t wait to welcome new friends into the affiliate space!

Speaking of welcoming new folks, we’ve been saying hello to newcomers in our Discord at an average rate of 2 per day this past year. That’s over 730 new faces since last year! We’ve long since passed the 2,500 member milestone, having reached over 2,650 now. Gosh that’s a lot of people.

Our member count isn’t the only growth we’ve seen in our Discord. We’re thrilled to see more webcomic creators than ever before! Be it a new member sharing their established webcomic or a well known member starting a brand new webcomic, it’s been wonderful seeing everyone enjoy each other’s work! So much so that we launched the #community-comics channel to help y’all get more eyes on your work. We want to see your projects thrive!

With all these new faces, our annual Secret Santa gift exchange is sure to grow in size as well. We saw a 42% increase in 2023, going from 57 santas to an astounding 81. We are expecting to reach into the triple digits this year. Don’t worry too much about Gunny managing so many, he has helpers! Even though it is a lot of work, he adores hosting our Secret Santa event each year. Seeing the glee and happiness of everyone is enough to bring a happy tear to his eye. We look forward to hosting the gift exchange again in the upcoming months!

Our Minecraft server is still going strong as a pillar in what we offer, despite being offline for 4 months due to Gunny’s apartment flooding at the start of the year. Everything has since recovered and is back online, including a newly purchased UPS funded entirely by generous donations from the community. Thank you so much! With dozens of new custom advancements at Spawn Island made by T.Applesmith and the new /hud app made by Gunny, there has never been a better time to join in on the fun.

Kalzeria, Mothorial, Preeny, and Star Warriors are all on hiatus right now. Each team is facing multiple unique struggles ranging from increased workloads to significant life events. They each wish to express deep gratitude for the community’s continued support and well wishes as they navigate the various problems holding them back. We may sound like a broken record by now, but thank you everyone for your unyielding support.

Neon Noble, the creator of Kalzeria, got married in April! As of the writing of this news post, she is away visiting her husband, Lex Temporis. We wish them all the happiness in the world with the time they spend together.

Izzy, the artist of Mothorial, took a huge step and moved to the US to attend college there. She is currently living with Metajoker, the writer of Mothorial. Together, they are refining their story’s writing in preparation for a strong return from hiatus. You can see their progress in our Discord, where Izzy has been streaming page work when her busy schedule permits it!

Momo, the creator of Preeny, is on a short break as well due to her day job becoming extremely time consuming as of late. Thankfully, she has enough time to work on several yet-to-be-revealed things that we can’t wait to see her announce! If you’re eager to see more of her work, look no further than this astounding music video she made with Metajoker! A lot of people put in a lot of work for that video and it really shows.

The Star Warriors team is steadily recovering from their overwhelming number of major life events and looking towards resuming work on their webcomic in the coming months. In the past year, they have expanded their team and begun work on revamping their Patreon. Keep an eye out for their renewed Patreon in the #foxglove-announcements channel of our Discord!

Star Warriors isn’t the only webcomic to work on their Patreon setup this past year. Both Preeny and Tamberlane revamped their Patreon as well! Preeny added new tiers and rewards including Discord rewards, whereas Tamberlane dialed it back some to reduce Caytlin’s workload and shift to a more fluid reward offering. Tamberlane has been thriving as a result, with no more hiatuses and a consistent 6-8 page buffer. It helps that the Tamberlane Omnibus work is finally coming to a close nearly 1.5 years after the Kickstarter, with books coming to their shop soon! Both Patreon revamps have worked in the creators’ favor, to which we couldn’t be happier.

You know what else makes us happy? All the lovely fan art y’all keep making! Your amazing gifts always bring huge smiles to our faces. Especially all those amazing community banners y’all make each season. An astounding 35 banners were submitted the past year, nearly twice as many as last year’s 19!

Fan art isn’t the only way to show how much you love our work. Thanks to nominations and votes from our readers, Tamberlane won Best Graphic Story at the Ursa Major Awards! That’s such an honor! As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Tamberlane’s Kickstarter animation was runner-up for Best Dramatic Short Work. With your enthusiastic support always lifting us higher, we are committed to delivering the best we can offer!

Should things go our way, expect some big announcements this upcoming year! We're stretched thin as of late, and have decided to focus on what matters most: our comics, and our mental health. So we don't want to promise too much! But despite all the setbacks, we still have big dreams and lofty goals we want to achieve. With a bit of luck, we’ll announce them before our next anniversary. Yes this is more or less how we ended last year’s anniversary news, but we don’t want to let our problems get in the way of our dreams! Here’s to a hopefully kinder year for all of us.
